The Argument for Change

We all go through some sort of change throughout life weather it be minor changes from decisions we make during the day, to major life changes that we have no control over. They can be change brought on by months and years of planning or they can be sudden events. We tend to look at change being a negative aspect of life, something we should avoid because it takes us out of our comfort zone and places us in an unknown environment. We have fears and uncertainties that stop us from making change happen in our lives. How often have you set a new years resolution to get fit, eat healthy, get on top of your finances yet after a month, we go back to what we were doing before and make plans to change the following year? This is because it is hard, we are wired to take the path of least resistance which is often the path that leads to no where.

What about the sudden changes? The ones we have not planned? These changes often have no option to go back so we are left lost and often struggling to cope. What if we change our mindset on change? Change can be a great opportunity for growth, learning new lessons and gaining new experiences. If we are left being comfortable with our lives we will be stuck, day to day expecting things to get better with nothing actually happening.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if we as a species decided not to explore new places and take risks. We probably wouldn’t have survived as a species. Sudden major changes can also be a great opportunity for growth as well, an opportunity to adapt to new environments, learn something new about yourself. Things might not be the same or as they used to be. But you now have the opportunity to try something new and live a new life.

Next time you think about changing something in your life or are going through a major life change, start by changing your mindset and think to yourself “what would my life look like if i decided to stay comfortable?”. That may give you the motivation you need to continue to move forward.
